How Horwich Ride Social started

Horwich is a beautiful area that I sensed had not been discovered by the social cyclist, mainly due to the topography.
After leading rides in neighbouring areas for other groups, I felt I wanted to share my own playground with potential like-minded cyclists.
Unsure if there would be a demand, and more than a little bit apprehensive, I decided to follow my own mantra of ‘don’t say no until you’ve had a go’ and jumped right in.
In 2018 I set up the group as Breeze Horwich, a British Cycling initiative, cycling for ladies by ladies and soon after began to receive enquiries by gents asking if they could join in also.
It was at this point Horwich Ride Social was formed as a community cycling group under Cycling UK's umbrella. The group now provides rides across Bolton and into the surrounding areas.
As the group developed so did the requests for the various ride disciplines and abilities and so the number of Ride Leaders was increased.
We now have a diverse range of volunteer Ride Leaders to share our passion of cycling and lead rides for both Cycling UK and British Cycling.
